Positions within the Federal Government are classified by pay plan, occupational series and grade. GS – 0800 – 05 GS – General Schedule (Pay Plan) (White Collar) 0800 – Job/Occupational Series – for Engineers 05 - Grade

8 Pay Plans Appropriated Funds – Funded by Congress
General Schedule (GS) - White Collar Positions Federal Wage Grade System (WG, WS, WL, etc.) - Blue Collar Positions (craft, trade, labor) Senior Executive Service (SES) - Equivalent to CEOs and Generals Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) – Generate own funds Various types of jobs - Childcare, recreation, lifeguard, etc.

Pathways Programs Internship Program For students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, including high school to post graduate schools. Provides students with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. May be converted non-competitively into a permanent position after graduation.

Pathways Programs Recent Graduates Program Provides developmental opportunities in the Federal government for individuals who graduated from qualifying institutions with an associates, bachelors, masters, doctorate, vocational, technical degree or certificate. Must apply within two years of degree/certificate completion except Veterans (up to six years). Apply during senior year and before graduation.

15 Career Opportunities for Students & Recent Graduates
Pathways Programs Presidential Management Fellows Program (PMF) Premier leadership developmental program for advanced degree candidates. Provides employment opportunities to masters, JD and doctoral-level graduates in STEM, contracting, finance, health, and other fields. Must apply within two years of degree completion. May be converted noncompetitively to permanent position upon successful completion of the program.
