1 Bellringer What to look for: 1st or 2nd person pronouns Incomplete sentences Run-on sentences Comma splices (I saw BOAT LOADS of those!) Contractions Make sure the thesis statement has the required components: a topic and supporting points (main ideas) that you would discuss later in the essay. Get your thesis statement practice sheet from Monday from Mrs. Thomas’s desk. Return to your seat. Quietly check your work—look for errors and make corrections as needed.

Those Lovely Rubrics… What is the purpose of a rubric? What are some things you need to do if you want to write a level 4 paper? Does a level 4 paper have to be perfect? Do you think you’d be a 1, 2, 3, or 4 based on what we looked at yesterday? LET’S SEE IF WE CAN’T IMPROVE THOSE ODDS FOR SUCCESS!

9 Now Let’s Evaluate Some Writing!
Use the TNReady rubric to score the essay. Explain WHY you scored each category the way you did. Label the following components in the essay: Thesis Statement Introduction Body Paragraphs Conclusion Talk to Mrs. Thomas if you need help…your neighbor is NOT Mrs. Thomas! Turn your work in above your class period on the shelf at the front of the room.

Closing Remarks How did you rate that essay? Do you think you could write an essay that good? What would you do better if you were the writer? What did you learn about your approach to writing timed essays this week? QUIZ TOMORROW—Be able to break down a writing prompt, annotate a text based on a prompt, and write a thesis statement based on said annotations…you might want to look of how to do an outline for a few extra points if you finish early tomorrow (hint hint)! MRS. THOMAS IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS!!!!!
