3 Background UNM budget challenges
IT Effectiveness and Efficiencies Effort IT Funding Committee Pilot Recap

4 Opportunities Volume driven, deep discounts → savings for UNM
Technology standards support efficiencies beyond acquisition cost is only a portion of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), e.g. system deployment and support Inventory/tagging processes Technology Refresh and Maintenance Funding Process

5 Coordinated Purchasing
Approach IT Officers (ITOs) and Workstation Management developed standards for laptops and desktops Current focus on Windows computers 2017 pilot leveraged partnership with Dell 2018 RFP awarded to Dell Compiled volume information Add slide with counts/savings

6 Coordinated Purchasing Process
Technical approach Assessment (requirements review) Consisted of hands-on evaluation of several ITO and WSM supported areas to help define requirements for several core use cases. Creation of standards based on the results of the requirements review: Model standardization Supportability Consumer VS Enterprise market equipment Forecasting for future purchases by working with strategic partner to identify high value features of next generation equipment

7 Coordinated Purchasing
Technical approach (cont.) Laptops Tier 1 (Value/mobility Prioritization) Tier 2 (Majority use case) Tier 3 (Performance) 2-in-1 Offering * Desktops Tier 1 (Value Prioritization) Tier 2 (Performance) All-In-One Offering Tier solutions will be evaluated yearly to ensure the University workstation standards are up to date and relevant to current technology needs/requirements

8 Computer RFP Outcome Volume purchasing – UNM savings realized ~$350K since May ‘17 Dell has been awarded as continued partner Significant savings on devices and services Discounts – minimum 39% Support efficiencies Inventory/tagging process Asset disposal, including non-Dell hardware ProSupport Plus – complete support service Personal purchasing at UNM discounted rates Marketing and promotions to come!

9 Computer Refresh Funding Request Program
Pilot for FY19, through UNM IT and Dell UNM is expected to receive ~$80K annually in refresh funds Dedicate funds towards providing eligible departments in need of funding with Dell computers (breakdown by Main, HSC and Branches) Funding request form and process to be developed Criteria: Replacement of workstations > 4 years old Workstation to be used as primary device by faculty/staff Department committed to moving towards single workstation per user Department committed to setting aside funds for refresh Utilize UNM IT tier standards Work with UNM IT to select configuration and coordinate purchase
