2 Warm-Up Take out your composition notebooks. If you haven’t done so already, write your name on the front cover. If you don’t have one yet, then take out a lined sheet of paper. Supplies, specifically composition notebooks, are due on Wednesday. Come talk to me if getting one by then is going to be a problem. Sign and date the student contracts. Pass them up to the front of your row.

3 Journal Entry #1 What did you do over the summer?
Ex: what did you eat, how much did you sleep, where did you go, what did you watch, who did you spend time with, etc. Write for 10 minutes.

4 Why do we teach grammar in school?
Think-Pair-Share Take a moment to think about your answer. Pair up with someone else (your choice). Share your answers with each other.

6 Prepositional Phrases
1. Prepositional Phrase = preposition (P) + object of preposition (OP). The preposition is the first word in the phrase and the object of the preposition is the last word in the phrase Sometimes there will be other words between the two elements. EX: to the mall; from the store; except all those

7 Prepositions: Position Words
Slot Test for Most Prepositions = The bird flew _____________ the clouds.

8 Prepositions Preposition- A position word that shows relationships between objects and/or time frame “The dress from the store…” “The sword in my hand…”

10 Object of the Preposition
2.Object of the Preposition (OP)-- the who or what in a prepositional phrase EX: I went by the store. By = preposition I went by what? The store. Store = object of the preposition EX: Angelica went home without her sister.
