1 Barnes Farm Infant School
New to Year 1

2 From Foundation to Year 1
The Foundation team worked closely with the Year One team to ensure there is a smooth transition between the year groups. Assessments take place in the summer term and are passed on to the new Year One team. These form the starting point for learning at the beginning of Year One. This term we are concentrating on supporting the children in becoming more independent learners.

4 We aim to… To build confident learners who know how to move their learning on if they are stuck. To create learners who are not afraid to make mistakes and who can learn from the mistakes they make. To provide a curriculum which is fun and engaging and provides opportunities to develop personal, social and emotional skills which will last a lifetime.

7 The Curriculum We aim to provide the children with a broad and balanced curriculum. At the beginning of the year, you will be sent the class curriculum maps which will tell you the topics to be covered throughout the year.

8 PE Lessons Full PE kit including trainers
For colder weather, children can wear tracksuit bottoms and a jumper All kit needs to be named. Earrings must be taken out. A spare pair of socks is a good idea. After school clubs will require a separate kit Long hair needs to be tied up

11 Snack and Lunches Continue to be free
If children bring their own packed lunches, please ensure that the lunchbox is labelled.

12 What your child will need each day…
Bookbag and diary Named water bottle Named coat Please do not bring in toys unless they are related to our learning.

13 Clubs Next year, there will be a range of before and after school clubs. Before school clubs will start at 8am. After School Clubs will range from sporting activities to Mathematics to Lego Club Year 1 are able to sign up to the clubs in the Autumn Term

15 Attendance Please be aware that regulations changed from 1 October Any 10 unauthorised sessions taken over a 10- week period can now be subject to a Penalty Notice being issued (1 session is a morning or afternoon). Remember that the school cannot authorise any holidays in term time.

16 Communication with School
If there are any problems at all – please come in and see us. There will be an adult on the door every morning for quick messages to be passed on (particularly if someone new is collecting your child). Mrs Farmer and Mrs Speller are available on the playground most days at the beginning or the end of the day. For more sensitive issues appointments after school can be made.
