Lab Report -Amount of water- By, Shannon, Charlotte, Yui, Cayden, Noah

2 Question What is the effect of water on the distance the cap will travel? (Yui)

3 Hypothesis If the amount of water is decreased then the distance will be shorter because the chemical reaction of water and Alka-seltzer is the fuel, so less reaction means less distance. (Charlotte)

4 Controlled Variables (The variables that do NOT change)
The amount of alka-seltzer The angle of launcher The temperature of the water The weight of the cap The place of the launcher The weather (Shannon)

5 Manipulated Variable/Independent Variable
The amount of water (Noah)

6 Responding Variable/Dependent Variable (The variable that is measured)
The distance the cap will travel. (Cayden) eroeruhwfnlkdfjnskdjfjksf

7 Pictures Water Syringe Launcher Film Canister And film cap
Alka-Seltzer Measure

8 Materials Water Tape Alka seltzer Launcher Film canister Film cap
Syringe Measuring tape ( Yard stick) (Charlotte)

9 Procedure (Write EACH and EVERY step in order. Include every step one needs to take to replicate the experiment exactly! Get the launcher, cup, film cap, water, Alka-seltzer, tape and yardstick. Put the launcher in one spot that you would like and mark it with tape. Put 5 ml into the film cap and do it 3 times. Keep the launcher in the same spot and fill the film cap with a different amount of water do this 3 times. Repeat step 4 but put a different amount of water for example: 15 ml of water do 3 times. Make sure that you have the same amount of Alka-seltzer and the same temp of water and same weather. (Yui)

10 Data Table: How the Amount of Water Affected the Distance
Responding Variable: Distance the Cap Traveled Manipulated Variable: Amount of water 10 ml. Trial 1 593 cm. Trial 2 550 cm. Trial 3 538 cm. Average 560 cm. R1 15 ml. 510 cm. 542 cm. 520 cm. R2 20 ml. 502 cm. 496 cm. 482 cm. R2 25 ml. 362 cm. 344 cm. 340 cm. 348 cm. R2

11 Graph (Noah)

12 Conclusion/Results In conclusion, we concluded that when the amount of water is at 10ml the cap travels the farthest. When it has more water, it goes less further. We know this because when we tested this, that is what happened. (Shannon)

13 Additional Questions 1.Why is it that the more water you put in, the less far it goes? 2.Why does the Alka seltzer explode in water? 3.How does the water push the alka seltzer to make the cap travel? (Cayden)
