8 Key Vocabualry Old Regime: The political and social system in France in 1770’s Louise XVI- King of France Marie Antoinette: Queen of France Estates General- An assembly of representatives of all the Estates.

Tennis Court Oath” The delegates pledge to stay until they formed a new constitution. Great Fear: A wave of panic and fear that swept accross France. The peasants became violent when it was feared the nobles were going to terrorize them.

Bastille: A Prison/ fortress in France. Bastille Day: Celebrating the day the peasents attacked the Bastille, freeing prisoners and taking weapons. July 14.

Second Estates- The Rich Nobles & monarchy. 2% of population and owned 20% of the land. Paid little or no taxes

Made up of three groups. A. Bourgeoisie-Wealthy business owners. Educated middle class B. Cooks, servants, laborers C. Peasants –poor
