What were Germanys foreign policy aims after 1933? How successful were they in achieving them?

2 Starter: Summarise the terms of the Treaty of Versailles under the following headings:
Territory Reparations Armaments War Guilt League of Nations Land lost to Britain, France, Belgium, Poland and Denmark. Germany forced to sign a ‘blank cheque’, later settled at £6,600 million. Army reduced to 100,000 men. No air force, 6 warships, no conscription. Rhineland demilitarized – German troops were not allowed there. Germany held entirely responsible for the war breaking out. Germany not allowed to join.

5 DEPRESSION In 1929, the Wall Street Crash causes a worldwide economic collapse and a depression. What impact do you think this might have had on Germany? Relations between countries?

7 In 1933, Hitler became Chancellor (Prime Minister) of Germany In year 11, we will concentrate on his domestic policy. This term we are focussing on his aims in foreign policy.

8 Your Task You are an expert in foreign policy
It is your job to advise the new leaders of Germany You will be told about various problems and given a choice of three policies to follow. Choose wisely. Your success will be rewarded. Failure will be punished!

Destroy the Treaty of Versailles Gain ‘Lebensraum’ (living space) in the east Bring all Germans into one Reich Make Germany strong again
