       * Tensions were high in June 1914, when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Bosnia. His assassination ignited Europe into war.

12 Treaty of Versailles     * The French and English insisted on punishment of Germany.      * A League of Nations was created.      * National boundaries were redrawn, creating many new nations. (except Germany)

16 Extra Tidbits!!! Tanks were used for the first time. Little Willie went 3mph. Hello Girls- telephone operators. Snoopy and the Red Baron. Planes were used for observation and in some dogfights. American soldiers were called Doughboys.

Harlem Hell Fighters was a famous black infantry unit. Big Bertha Tracer ammunition was used.
