2 Among the different exams conducted in India every year, the civil service generally refers to the IAS exam.

3 Thus, the exam pattern of IAS exam is comprised of three stages such as prelim, main and personal interview.

4 All of these three levels in the IAS exam patterns are carried out by the union public service commission.

5 The below phases define the three levels of IAS exam patterns briefly.

7 The initial phase of the IAS exam defined as preliminary level usually conducted on the second or third Sunday each year in June.

8 The preliminary exam of IAS comprises with a couple of papers of two hundred marks each which is equally common to all prospects.

9 First paper of civil service contains the questions on Indian constitution history, geography, general science, current affairs, and financial system.

10 Second paper of prelim contain comprehension, English passage, statistics, mental ability, local analysis, and decision making potentials.

11 The result of prelim will be announced during the second week of August. The qualifier of prelim can appear in the second phase of the IAS exam.

13 The second phase of IAS referred as the main exam and comprises with 1750 marks and appeared by the prelim exam qualifiers.

14 In this phase of the IAS exam pattern, the civil service contenders have to choose two optional paper for the purpose of the main exam.

15 Among the different papers in IAS main exam, the general science and essay are common for all aspirants.

16 In addition to the exam, the english is a language paper that is compulsory for all the aspirants in a solely qualifying nature.

17 After the exam, for the purpose of merit determination, the scores are never revealed nor measured by anyone.

19 The third phase of the IAS exam considered the interview which is conducted by a panel of specialists within the UPSC headquarters located in Delhi.

20 Those candidate who qualifies the main exam are eligible for the civil service interview and carries on right till the first week of March.

21 The interview is conducted by the UPSC member and other panel members who are primarily invited to conduct the interview.

22 The interview conducted by the members are subject experts or even noted as bureaucrats or technocrats.

23 The IAS interviews normally take 20 minutes for each candidate and few of the IAS candidates have faced 5- minute interviews also.
