1 Dear parents and teachers, the mode that I have chosen is reading and viewing and my focus area is phonological awareness. Reading and viewing recognises the skills and resources for the reader as a text decoder, participant, user and analyst. According to Carol (2011), phonological awareness is the skills that involves on processing and manipulating speech sounds. It is therefore important for children to acquire phonological awareness as supported by Bradley and Bryan’s work (1980). ‘Phonological ability in preschool children is one predictor of later success in reading ability’. One of the theorist related to the topic is Gillion (2004) which talks about the dual route approach theory which is flexible but argues that the characteristics of the reading material determine whether access is direct or indirect. This site is designed as a platform to highlight the importance of phonological awareness and the different components of it which is rhymes, segmenting, alliteration, sound manipulation and blending. I believe that for learning to take place, it must be conducted in a fun and interactive manner. Get ready to be exposed to new and innovative ideas for teaching your child as u browse through the website. We trust that our ideas and resources will be beneficial for you and your child to develop a key interest in becoming a beginning reader.
