Railway Infrastructure in the territory of ŽSGR Railway infrastructure development can be particularly effected by modernizing of the international corridors defined at the Pan European Congress of Ministers of Transport held in Crete in 1994 and confirmed in Helsinki in 1998. corridor No. V - Bratislava - Žilina - Čierna nad Tisou - Ukraine corridor No. VI - Balt - Varšava - Zwardoň - Skalité - Čadca - Žilina with further continuance over the corridor No. V ŽSGR territory cross following transeuropean corridors:

Integration of ŽSGR into European railway corridors

Žilina Self-governing Region (SVK) – Moravian- Silesian Region (CZE) – Silesian Voivodeship (PL) Žilina self-governing region, Moravian-Silesian Region, Silesian Voivodeship neighbouring regions, mutually running partnerships among regions, long-lasting cooperation: - at various levels (regional as well as local self- government, private sector). - in various areas (business enterprising, environment, transport, tourism). regions are not limited by extreme language barrier, along with, regions are related on the basis of a common history as well as current problems – e.g. an economic transformation, global impacts on local economies and a living standard in neighbouring parts of their territories. Since 2007 there has emerged an ambition to create a common area for common approach, cooperation and mutual best practice exchange related to resolving common whether similar problems and coming challenges according to the similarly running models (e.g. French-Belgian model Grand region)

creation of a stable common area (territory), development of cooperating area in involved regions, elaboration of a common development strategy on the basis of regional development prognosis, i.e. including a common transport development strategy coordination of implementation of strategic activities in defined areas of a common interest. In 2009 the Moravian-Silesian Region together with the Žilina Self-governing Region and the Silesian Voivodeship submitted in the frame of the OP Central Europe the project entitled TRITIA, aimed at highlighting attractiveness and uniqueness of 3 involved regions, along with promoting their economies and improving their competitiveness particularly by taking following steps:

Žilina Self-governing Region (SVK) – Moravian- Silesian Region (CZE) – Silesian Voivodeship (PL) strategic area: Competitiveness of sub-regions strategic objective:Maintaining diversity and improving co-operation of sub-regions while strengthening position of Žilina region and Považie sub-region in the context of Europe of regions. One of the main problems of the TRITIA common area is represented by not completed north-southern and east-western international transport corridors, i.e. the absence of satisfying mutual interconnection of transport road corridors. All activities related to mutual cooperation with the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Silesian Voivodeship are resulting from the fundamental strategic document of ŽSGR – Program of Economic and Social Development of the Žilina Self- governing Region for 2007 – 2013:
