You are not married to only these questions. Feel free to expand beyond these parameters.

3. Feedback/Reminders for Essays
Don’t say things just to take up space; every sentence should count
Transitions should not be: first, next, in conclusion, etc.
Simple style mistakes:
Novel titles are italicized, not in quotes
Know when to use commas and apostrophes
Proofread before you submit
Don’t explicitly say “the meaning of the work as a whole”
Weave in your textual evidence
If you don’t turn in a final draft, you get a zero for that component.
No questions - only answers
You must find a peer to edit your paper if you’re absent for peer-editing. If I see the final paper in exactly the same condition as the original, that does not look good.
Capitalize words that need it; don’t randomly capitalize unnecessary words
Give title and author in intro paragraph
Citations not necessary
Write in present tense
Don’t just pull in a character and not give a brief statement of context
No personal pronouns
Quotes shouldn’t be full sentences (remember your AP Lang learnin’)
Topic sentences should be claims - not facts about the text (remember your AP Lang learnin’)
Avoid plot summary: that will get you a 4-2, no matter how well it’s written
Make sure to include the MOWAW! What are the implications of this work?
Internalize the verb grammar lesson - I’m still seeing a LOT of weak/passive verb phrases

The directions ask you to:
Annotate for specific choices/devices
Compose a response to those devices
Analyze/evaluate Wright’s verb choice

time (of day, period of history/future, season, month, etc.)
location (localized, general)
surroundings (and the vibe of those surroundings)
weather
nearby objects
culture
geography
Change the setting of the story. Different time, different place, different vibe. Explain how the story changes using your new details.
