8/1/16 This is your first bellringer. Start it on a clean piece of paper. You will put the week’s bellringers on this page What was the best part about your first day at HOCO? What was the worst part?

8 Quiz and instructions for after
Put your name, class period, and quiz version on your bubble sheet When you are finished, return the quiz and your bubble sheet to the front counter and put it in the A or B pile. Pick up the Mythbusters handout and the Methods of Science notes if you have not already copied them. If you have not copied them already, copy them into your notes section of notebook. Return to your seat and wait quietly until everybody is finished.

10 When heating a test tube over a Bunsen burner, it is important to
Hold the test tube straight up and down Hold the test tube as still as possible Point the open end of the test tube away from yourself and others All of the above 8/8/16

11 8/9/16 What are independent and dependent variables?
Which one is cause and which one is effect?

12 8/10/16 Graph this

13 Did yours look like this?

14 8/11 Pick up the brain pop sheet from the front table.
Do the side that says “order of events” Get out your graphing homework and have It out on your desk.

15 8/12/16

16 8/15/16

17 8/16/15 Get ready for your quiz!

18 8/17/16 In your words, what is the difference in a food chain and a food web?

19 8/18/16 Does your book have an alligator or an owl on the front? If you don’t have an owl, you need to swap it out. What does abiotic mean?

20 8/17/16 Put these in order from smallest to largest: Community
Population Organism Biome Ecosystem biosphere

21 8/17/16 Homework: Checklist # 1 and #2
Make sure your pictures are colored! And you answer all the questions on the video handout. www. Juliewillishchs.weebly.com

22 8/22/16 Get your checklist out to be checked off. You should have #1 and #2 done now. Draw a food web with at least 4 organisms and label the tropic levels. (primary, secondary…)

23 8/23/16 What is the difference between a producer and a consumer?
What is another name for each?

24 8/24/16 Get ready for your quiz.
If you did not turn in your food web yesterday, do it now!

25 8/25/16 How much energy is available to be passed from one trophic level to the next? If there a 900,000 kcals of energy in the producers, how much of that energy is available to the tertiary consumer?

26 8/29/16 Of all the Biogeochemical cycles, which one does not have an atmospheric component?

27 9/1/16 What is a biome? Which one do we live in?

28 9/6/16 What is permafrost? Where would you likely find it?

29 9/8/16 Frayer models. (see board for example) Two on the front page, two on the back page. Use color on the pictures Succession Primary succession Secondary succession Pioneer species Climax community Density dependent factor Density independent factor Carrying Capacity Emigration Immigration

30 9/8/16 What is succession? What is the difference
between primary succession and secondary succession?

31 9/9/16 What is carrying capacity? (This was one of your vocab words!)
Get your Frayer models out to be checked

32 9/12/16 How does phosphorus get out of rocks and into living organisms?

33 9/13/16 What are the 3 main types of interaction between living things?

34 9/14/16 In which symbiotic relationship does one organism benefit and the other is neither harmed nor helped?

35 9/19/16 What is the main difference in primary succession and secondary succession? What is one cause of each type?

36 9/15/16 Label the symbiosis and explain.

37 9/16/17 What is a pioneer species?
Under what circumstances would you find one? Give an example.

38 9/20/16 Get a zipgrade answer key off of the front counter and prepare for you quiz.

39 9/21/16 What is a climax community? When would you find this?
What organisms would you find there?

40 9/22/16 What pattern of growth will a population with limited resources show? a. exponential b. logistic c. density-dependent d. density-independent

41 9/23/16 What is a pioneer species? When would you see one?
Give an example.

42 9/26/16 Get your study guides out to be checked.

43 9/27/16 Find your seat with the Zipgrade. It already has your name on it. DO NOT MESS UP THE TAPE!!! Prepare for your test. Remember to put the version on your zipgrade before you turn it in

44 9/28/15 List 3 ways that Humans Impact the Environment

45 9/29/16 Why is deforestation bad?

46 9/30/16 What does Ozone do for us?
What things are bad for the ozone layer? What would happen if there was not an ozone layer?

47 10/3/16 What is biomagnification?

48 10/4/16 What happens to ponds and lakes when fertilizers runoff into them?

49 5-7th periods Complete the following handouts: Station 5: Fossil Fuels
Staion 6: Habitat Destruction Vocabulary Practice These should be finished by tomorrow. We will go over them and review for your test on THURSDAY

50 10/5/15 Get out all of your Human Impact handouts so that we can go over them. Your test is tomorrow over Human Impact on the Environment

51 10/6/16 Prepare for you test. Go over your notes.
There are 3 mistakes on the test. Version A-9, 22, 29 Version B-19, 22, 28 There are 2 choice Bs.

52 10/17/16 Bell Ringer Quiz will be Wednesday 10/19/16
