3 General Characteristics
Reptiles have scaly skin Almost all of the reptiles have 3-chambered hearts. Reptiles are ectotherms, which means that their body temp. is dependant on their surroundings. Some reptiles, like snakes, molt. This is the shedding of their old scaly skin where new skin will form. Reproduction for reptiles happens on land.

4 More General Characteristics
Reptiles are found mostly all around the world, except for extreme places like Antarctica. Most reptiles live on land. Scientists say that reptiles have been around for about 300 million years. There are approx. 8,000 species of reptiles. Reptiles breathe through lungs.

A reptile reproduce sexually with the eggs being fertilized inside the female’s body by the male. Most reptiles are oviparous. All reptiles have bilateral symmetry. A reptile has a brain and nervous system. Their eyes can sense sound. Reptiles have feet with claws

6 More General Characteristics
Most reptiles have 3-chambered hearts. Alligators and crocodiles have 4-chambered hearts though. All reptiles are vertebrates which means that they have a backbone. They also have an endoskeleton.
