6. Why colonialism?
Europe was rich after slave trade and several centuries of trade with Africa and Asia = no problem with capital
There was no shortage of labour to work in factories = didn’t need people
Shortage of raw materials! = Africa was rich in natural resources so many Europeans encouraged the colonisation of Africa so they could get hold of raw materials for factories
They needed new markets! = They were producing more than they could sell, came to sell it in their colonies in Africa

Processed it in Britain
Sold processed goods (back) to Africans
