WARM UP! I have 3½ Lbs of cheese to make pizzas. Each pizza will use ¼ pound of cheese. How many pizzas can I make? Show your work! I spent 7 dollars on the cheese. How much must I sell each pizza for to pay for the cheese?

Writing an Equation from a graph TAKE NOTES!
A linear equation is Y = MX + B The M is the slope

So, this linear equation is Y = -2X – 1
Where did I get – 1 ?

The Y intercept! In the equation Y = MX + B, the B is the Y intercept. It’s where our line intercepts the Y axis That is where I got -1 Let’s practice finding B

B = 1

B= -3

B = 2

B = 5

B = -2

Now let’s practice finding slope Remember, slope is how steep
Now let’s practice finding slope Remember, slope is how steep. It is rise over run. Here are the steps 1. Make a slope triangle connecting 2 points on the line 2. The height of your triangle is the top number of your slope fraction 3. The width of your triangle is the bottom number

Height is 3 Slope is 3/4 Width is 4

Height is 4 Slope is 4/2 or 2 Width is 2

Y = MX +B Now lets practice! We replace the M with the slope
Remember, we are writing a linear equation: Y = MX +B We replace the M with the slope We replace the B with the y intercept

Y = MX + B Y = 3/3X + 5 Y = X + 5

Y = MX + B Y = 2/4X - 3 Y = ½X - 3

B =9 M= -4/2 Y = -2X + 9
