Strong fortresses for defense and living

Tended to land holdings while husband is away

Marriage was a long drawn out negotiation of terms – Dowry / land

4. Life on the Manor The Manorial Economy The Manor was the economy
Labor done by peasants (serfs)
Not slave but not free
Must stay on the land for life
Peasants Duties:
Farming
Repairing infrastructure
Gaining permission for marriage
Making payments to Lord
Often in farming goods
Peasant life was TOUGH!!!
A self-sufficient economy
Everything a small town needed was provided there
