1 Why does development vary among genders?

2 What is Gender? "Sex" refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that define men and women. "Gender" refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women.  *This doesn’t have anything to do with the conversation of sexuality, gender identity, or gender expression… That’s another topic

Economic participation and opportunity – outcomes on salaries, participation levels and access to high- skilled employment Educational attainment – outcomes on access to basic and higher level education Political empowerment – outcomes on representation in decision-making structures Health and survival – outcomes on life expectancy and sex ratio. In this case parity is not assumed, there are assumed to be less female births than male (944 female for every 1,000 males), and men are assumed to die younger. Provided that women live at least six percent longer than men parity is assumed, if it is less than six percent it counts as a gender gap. World Economic Forum

15 Some places are improving…
UN asserts gender inequality has declined in nearly every country since the 1990s. Greatest improvements in Southwest Asia and North Africa. U.S. is one of few developed countries where the GII has increased. Reproductive rights much lower in U.S. compared to other very high HDI countries. Percentage of women in the national legislature is relatively lower than other high HDI countries.
