An overview for students and parents introducing IB MYP at LJPS Liza Jackson is one of approximately 850 authorized MYP schools in the world IB – international baccalaureate, MYP – Middle years programme IB also has the PYP and DP We are proud that we are not only an IB school, but also have some of the top FCAT and EOC scores in the District/State Our objective is to help you make an informed decision about your child’s education. Thank you for allowing us this opportunity to tell you about our Middle Years Program

2 Clarifying misconceptions
Similarities between DP and MYP encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right Differences between DP and MYP DP is an academically demanding two-year curriculum that meets only the needs of highly motivated students MYP is an inclusive programme for all students encourages students to connect their studies in the traditional subjects to the real world Helps students become critical and reflective thinkers MYP – all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are in the MYP. Within the program, students may take regular or advanced options. For students meeting the proper pre-requisites, high school credit may also be earned in Algebra, Geometry, Science, and Spanish. MYP students develop a set of skills and attributes setting them apart from their peers, and equipping them for a successful future in high school and college.

3 Intercultural Awareness
The MYP is based on three fundamental concepts 1 Holistic Learning 2 Intercultural Awareness 3 Communication Holistic Learning – connects learning to self, real-world issues, and between subjects Intercultural Awareness – explore other cultures, develop empathy, consider multiple perspectives Communication – effective collaboration, verbal and non-verbal skills, professional and social contexts The IB MYP focuses on the whole child, preparing each for life in the 21st century
