1 IQA Improvement Work

2 IQA Improvement Projects
IQA Improvement Topic Why important AEB 24.31 Low volume minimum IQA requirements defined. (updated Jan 2013) IQA Test Plan Optimization Shows all IQA tests and what can be grouped / ran at same time. Will show where T4F after-treatment tests fit in overall tests. Virtual Panel Review New panel review process – T4F beta engines will require panel IQA Parenting May offer opportunity to reduce IQA effort/time Advisor improvements Planned release end of May Discussing some recent IQA improvement work that can be of value to AE. This slide summarizes the topics we will discuss and why we think the AE would be interested.

4 AEB24.31 – page 2 & 3 Just briefly pointing out AEB It is not just low volume! Pages 2 and 3 of this AEB discusses required testing for T4 engines and what can be modeled if low volume. Note subsequent section in AEB shows what can be modeled (by-pass testing) no matter the volume of any emission tier engine. Pointing this AEB out because AE’s frequently ask if they have to do a “full blown” IQA for low volume installations. Some AE’s were not aware that testing could be by-passed if modeled.

6 IQA Optimized Test Plan Goals and Benefits
Help AE’s decide what is the minimum testing required in order to complete an IQA Decrease time to complete an IQA Show tests with similar set-ups and conditions that can be run together to save time. One spot for all IQA tests Tool to share with OEMs, Marketing, New AE’s to demonstrate testing needs and modeling opportunities

7 Improvements Optimized Test Plan Needs to be: Solution:
Simple, Easy to Use Convenient (anyone can get to it and use it) Up-to-Date Solution: AEB IND IQA TEST Attachment Excel Worksheet with Macros Final Version to be integrated into Advisor this year to minimize duplicate answering of questions Cummins Confidential

10 IQA Improvement Projects
IQA Improvement Topic Why important AEB 24.31 Low volume minimum IQA requirements defined. (updated Jan 2013) IQA Test Plan Optimization Shows all IQA tests and what can be grouped / ran at same time. Will show where T4F after-treatment tests fit in overall tests. 11 Virtual Panel Review T4F beta installations will require a panel review Possible exceptions OEM with multiple / similar installation – one review? CPP power unit installations Later beta installation submittals NEW “Virtual” Panel Review Database Initially developed at DEP Allows AE to post material on a Lotus Notes database and then panel reviewers review on their time (with time limits). In process of rolling this out for North America distributor AE’s.

12 AEB 20.12 Questionnaire Process With Virtual Panel Review (VPR) and CARS Databases
Required? Audit Eng. Sel. Score AEB20.12 questionnaire N Audit IQA Copy VPR pdf to CARS (if applicable) & update IQA Status Auditor End Y Submit Eng Sel & 20.12 questionnaire ( on CARS) Submit Design Docs For Audit (On CARS) Submit Installation Docs for Audit (On CARS) AE and Panel Reviewers Start AE plans to submit Design Review? Y Submit Design Review documents (on VPR and CARS) DR Virtual Panel Review AE Submit Installation Review for Audit (on CARS) Items above dotted line is how process works today for NA distributors that use the AEB20.12 questionnaire process and no panel review is required. The way of doing things in this situation does not change. If a panel review is required, then this virtual panel review database will be used. The AE can have a panel review at design phase or installation review phase. Cummins prefers at panel to be done at design to catch issues earlier, especially with new Tier 4F products where there are NUDS that are new to OEM, AE, Auditors, etc. Catch the issues early and minimize cost and impact to OEMs overall schedule. N Submit Design and Installation documents (on VPR and CARS) IR Virtual Panel Review - VPR only used when required based on AEB20.12 questionnaire score. - VPR only required at DR or IR, usually not both. - Preferred path is to do a design review to find issues earlier in process. - CARS is final repository for IQA documentation 9/19/2018 Cummins Confidential

13 Class demo Link to virtual panel (email) Walk through training (email)
Will be posted on GCE (show) link to database and copy of training material to each AE in the class. Have them click on the link to open the database. Open the training material and walk them through the steps of populating and submitting for review. Point out… a new panel review template will be published soon on GCE. The snapshot at the bottom of the screen is what will be posted on GCE in the next couple of weeks (by end of May 2013). It is not on GCE at this moment. Point out what each document is.

14 Virtual Panel Review Status:
A few IT issues still exist that we are working through Will communicate updates on this roll out Derek’s monthly AE communication

15 IQA Improvement Projects

16 IQA Parenting Concept: If part(s) of a new installation (the child) is the same as a previous installation (the parent) that has already been documented, tested and approved, then that part of the installation should not require re-documentation, re-test or re-audited in the new installation. Benefit: Reduce IQA effort (documentation, test, audit, and panel review time, etc.) by OEM, AE and Auditors.

17 Examples of IQA Parenting
Cummins Power Products Same machine model with different engine Tier 3 to Tier 4F Tier 4i to Tier 4F Tier 4i to Tier 3 (AEB24.73) Tier 4F to Tier 3 Different machine model with same/similar installation Different rating Same subsystem designs OEMs may move toward similar engine installation on T4F to help complete engineering work on time.

18 6s Project – IQA Parenting Process
Initiated March 2013 Planned to complete Sept/Oct Short-term options (later slide) Green Belt: Michele Shimp Purpose: Formalize an IQA parenting process to reduce IQA documentation time, test time and audit time. Also can discuss in one panel review. Status: VOC interviews/survey in process

19 Feedback Requested Do you have opportunities for this before the 6s project is complete? Do you see this as a good thing? Which parenting scenario, if any, would you be more likely to use with your OEM? T4i to T4f? T3 to T4f? Multiple machines with similar installation? Open to working with AE before 6s project complete. (next slide – proposal) Help AE/OEM reduce IQA work for Tier 4f Help Cummins understand scenarios and feed into 6s project solutions.

20 Short term concept Concept for IQA parenting before 6s project complete
Identify parenting opportunity with OEM Should be done early – in planning stages Need to come up with matrix by subsystem (parent vs child – highlight differences and what is identical) Get agreement from Cummins early. Don’t assume we will agree. Don’t wait until installation review. Auditors will review with key people (CES, cooling experts and others as needed) Acceptable parent plan based on feedback Discuss documentation, test, review required for IQAs being parented Review with Auditor for buy in Auditor reviews internally with key groups Auditor discuss with AE

22 Advisor Improvements Target: End of May 2013
OEM Summary Letter Report Include values AE enters, spec limits and units

23 Advisor Improvements Target: End of May 2013
Ability to do analysis on checklist questions that are partially completed. Checklist questions assigned to engine configurations that it apply to Import/Export checklist questions STATUS: software is in UAT testing now.
