2 Writing an argumentative piece
Argumentative pieces are similar to writing a persuasive essay in which you want to try and persuade your audience. However, there are many aspects that make it different as well.

3 Writing an argumentative piece
First, you must know which side of the issue you stand on, and be firm in your stance. Do the research! Use strong facts and sources to back up your stance. Use clear language and good writing techniques to build your piece.

4 Writing an argumentative piece
From using facts, data, and sources while writing an argument paper, one is using Ethos. Ethos: Credibility – The help of creditable sources to back up your argument.

5 Writing an argumentative piece
Another approach that becomes helpful while writing an Argumentative piece is being able to develop an emotional connection to the side in which you’re trying to argue. This method would be considered a type of Pathos. Pathos: Emotional – using ones own emotions, and connections with their argument in order to persuade the audience.

6 Writing an argumentative piece
While writing an argument paper, you want to have deep understanding, and knowledge on the topic you’re arguing. This would be considered Logos. Logos: Being able to persuade an audience from the knowledge, and logic on the topic in which one will arguie.

7 Writing an argument piece
Another important factor to contribute while writing an argument piece is taking both sides into consideration. One will want to take their argument and the counter argument, display both of them in the piece, and use facts, and data to support both sides but still prove/disprove what one believes with the evidence they inquire.

8 Example of Pathos in text
Dogs' status as "man's best friend" offers them no protection from being locked in lonely cages and forced to endure excruciating experiments. More than 75,000 dogs, including thousands of homeless animals from animal shelters, are tormented in U.S. laboratories every year. Dogs are a favored species in toxicology studies. In these studies, large doses of a test substance (a pharmaceutical, industrial chemical, pesticide, or household product) are pumped into animals' bodies, slowly poisoning them. Dogs are also abused in human disease studies, including studies of heart and hormonal disorders. At Ohio State University, vivisector George Billman forced surgically manipulated dogs to run on a treadmill until they collapsed from a heart attack. The dogs were killed, and the damage to their heart tissue was studied. In a violent experiment at the University of Pennsylvania, puppies were bred to have a degenerative eye disease that culminates in blindness. During the study, 3-week-old beagles had their eyes cut out and were killed. You can help. Take a stand against animal testing. Sign PETA's pledge to be cruelty-free and only support companies and charities that do not fund or conduct cruel experiments on animals. The underlined areas are where the author uses pathos to appeal to the audiences emotions and the items that are underlined and grey are the the author uses credible sources appealing to the ethos

9 Strong Imagery Painful words Detailed experiments First reminds the reader that dogs are mans best friend Helps to make that connection Use strong stories that create terrible and sad images
