1 Theories and Practices to develop Classics Outreach in the 21 st century

2 Swansea LEA drew up a Classics charter which guaranteed the survival of some Classics in the secondary curriculum of all reorganised Swansea schools, something that seems to have been unusual in Welsh and English authorities. Classics teachers in Swansea had the blessing of their LEA, and were strongly supported both by a local adviser and by their regional Classics HMI. (M. Forrest, Modernising the Classics, 1996)

3 Phases May 2013 – June 2014: a short-term campaign to make as many schools as possible aware of the option of teaching Latin or Greek June – September 2014: provide 8 nationwide workshops for schools interested in teaching one of the ancient languages collaborate with existing training providers (e.g. Primary Latin Project, Birmingham Teacher Training) September 2014 onward: creation of long-term support

4 Project Aims Raise awareness: funding, resources, training, support Research into the impact of Latin/Greek teaching on cognitive development Advancing resource development
