1 Instruments Used in the Lab
9/18/2018

2 Erlenmeyer Flask Used to measure large volumes of liquid 10mL – 2000mL
9/18/2018

3 Beaker: Used to measure Rough volumes of liquid
Not very precise measuring Watch Glass: piece of glass used to either cover a beaker or hold chemicals for drying or other purposes. Graduated Cylinder: Used to measure more precise volumes of liquid More precise than beakers Pipettes: Used to transfer and measure very small volumes of liquid Can be very precise if they have small enough markings 9/18/2018

4 Goggles used to protect Eyes from splashes during experimentation
Lab Apron-used to protect body and clothing from splashes and spills 9/18/2018

5 Spot Plate or microwells
Used for small scale reactions 9/18/2018

6 Beaker & Beaker Tongs Used to handle hot beakers
Do not work well for very small beakers or very large beakers 9/18/2018

7 Stoppers Many different sizes.
May or may not have holes for thermometers. Used for flasks. 9/18/2018

8 Graduated Cylinders-used to measure more precise and accurate amounts of liquid
9/18/2018

9 Funnels There are several different types of funnels but this a common one. Funnels can be used to cleanly transfer liquid into containers with a small opening or filter paper can put in the funnel to filter solids from a liquid. 9/18/2018

10 Thermometers Test Tubes
They are filled with a red liquid for easy reading Used for holding small amounts of liquids and solids Sometimes reactions are done in test tubes Test Tubes This small piece of equipment is for test tubes only Test Tube Holder 9/18/2018

11 Test Tube Racks Test tube racks come in many styles. Can be made from plastic, metal, or wood.Holds test tubes. 9/18/2018

12 Filter Paper Used with a funnels to separate solids out of a solution
9/18/2018

13 Watch Glass Watch glasses are small, flat, round pieces of glassware.
They are mainly used to dry and weigh solid compounds and to cover containers 9/18/2018

14 Ring Stand and Iron Ring
Iron rings attach to a ring stand Have several uses 9/18/2018

15 Wire Mesh (guaze) square-shaped pieces of mesh or screen
Use with Iron ring and rind stand Use to heat glassware over Bunsen burner 9/18/2018

16 Bunsen Burner common piece of laboratory equipment used for heating, sterilization, and combustion. safely burns a continuous stream of a flammable gas such as natural gas 9/18/2018

17 Striker The striker has an advantage that it's longer than a match (avoid burning your fingers), and produces sparks, as opposed to an open flame, to light the burner. 9/18/2018

18 Crucible : used for heating substances to high temperatures.
Crucible Tongs are used to move a hot crucible and lift its lid. 9/18/2018

19 Clay Triangle The triangle is used to hold crucibles when they are being heated. They usually sit on a ring stand 9/18/2018

20 Glass Stir Rods Stir rods are long cylinders made of glass.
They come in many sizes 9/18/2018

21 Litmus Paper Universal Indicator Phenolphthalein
All used to test the pH of a substance. Universal Indicator Phenolphthalein 9/18/2018

22 Spatulas and Scupulas Used for transferring solid chemicals Scoopula

23 Ring Stand Iron Ring Striker Bunsen Burner Wire Guaze
This is the proper set up for heating a beaker or flask Ring Stand Wire Guaze Iron Ring Striker Bunsen Burner 9/18/2018

24 Triple Beam Balance: Used for measuring Mass
Accurate to a hundredth of a gram (.01) 9/18/2018

25 Electronic Balance Accurate to .01 grams Used for measuring mass
9/18/2018

26 Weighing Containers Weigh Boats Used to weigh out chemicals on a scale
Weighing Trays 9/18/2018

27 Hot Plates/Stir Plate Used to heat up reactions 9/18/2018

28 Wash Bottles Bottle used to dispense liquid as needed. Usually used to rinse a container or to help rinse off solids in a filter funnel. 9/18/2018
