4 Class Objectives ACT is a full year course that expands and accelerates all objectives in preparation for taking the ACT test. Students in the course are expected to be diligent and are expected to complete all assignments of the topics covered. Strategies will be taught to enhance the students’ ability to increase their ACT score in each section of the test, thus, increasing the total composite score.

5 Course Outline Course Outline
Students will spend 9 weeks with 3 different core academic subjects: Math (Ms. Hillstrom) ELA/Reading (Mrs. Tuck) Science (Mrs. Sneed) **We do not know which order we will rotate in yet.

6 Student Expectations Follow all classroom expectations and procedures and all CHS policies. Classroom expectations include, but are not limited to the following: Come prepared with supplies, ready to participate and give 100% effort everyday. Be respectful to others, others’ property and space. Keep the room clean. Keep up with your grades. Be in your seat and ready to begin when the bell rings. We will be on BYOD RED most days, so no cell phones should be out unless otherwise instructed.

7 Student Expectations continued
Get and complete all missed assignments and evaluations promptly. Daily lessons and homework assignments will be detailed on the white board at the beginning of each week. (IN BLUE) Daily lessons will also be on my classroom website.

8 Cell Phone policy Red – OFF. Not on silent or vibrate.
Yellow – ASK FIRST. Face down on corner of desk. Green – USE. Must stay on task. We will almost always be on RED so I should not see or hear your cellphone.

9 Bathroom breaks You get 4 bathroom passes per quarter. Use them wisely. If the hall pass is here – you may go. If the hall pass is gone – you must wait. You are responsible for ALL material missed while you were in the bathroom.

10 Supply List Mandatory: Writing Utensils: Pencil & Eraser
Three Subject Notebook HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Calculator – A Texas Instruments graphing calculator anything in the 84 family) is highly recommended.

11 Calculators: BUY, RENT OR BORROW!
I highly recommend you purchase a Texas Instruments (TI-84) calculator for this class. Why? This is the recommended calculator for ALL high school math classes.  The TI-84 will help in every class because it has the capability of graphing and higher level math skills. It will greatly save time and frustration.  It's accepted on every test in high school and college... It's a lifetime calculator!!!                ** I purchased one at the start of my high school career, used it throughout college and still use it in my classroom today!  Q: Where can you buy it? A: Office Max, Walmart, Amazon (cheapest option)

12 Calculators: BUY, RENT OR BORROW!
I have 12 calculators that will be available for use in class. They will be handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis. I will NOT be able to promise you a calculator for use on classwork or a test. These calculators will not leave my classroom. Students will not be dismissed from class until ALL calculators have been returned.

13 Calculators: BUY, RENT OR BORROW!
You can rent a TI-84 calculator from the library for the duration of the school year for $20. You will need to bring this yellow form home (On Thursday) to be signed.

14 Class Fee: $20 This fee is to help off-set the cost of the computer program CHS will be using to implement several ACT Prep strategies. The ACT program is Shmoop, (schools.shmoop.com) an online test prep company. The program is accessible at any time, from any device, including tablets and cell phones.

15 Grading

16 Grading continued Students will be assigned “Drills” daily that will be graded on effort and completion. If students are absent they are required to make up any Drills they missed. Students will be given a quiz over each mathematics subsection (5 total) as well as several practice tests. Each student will take an ACT pre-test to determine his/her skills that need to be improved. An individualized instructional plan will be implemented to suit each student’s needs. At the end of each nine weeks, the students will take an ACT post-test to check for improvement.

17 Daily assignments Daily assignments will be detailed on the back board at the beginning of every week. (IN BLUE) Assignments will also be listed on my classroom website.
