2 The Tools to Do It Right - Engaging Communities in Wales Catching the Vision Raise awareness of the needs and opportunities: Publicity / local media / through local events / leaflets Build a supporter base: regular giving and newsletters Lead by example; value the community: talk to anyone and everyone who will listen. Initiate formal town twinning by involving local council Keep going! Good news stories.

They give talks to all sorts of people and keep talking. They inspire others. They become personal links with your partner community.

Key people recognised and regarded within the community: Partner NGO leaders Volunteers chosen by their communities District Directorates Build through existing community networks: NGO links / faith-based groups / community teacher / pastor / headman / womens groups.

Regular briefing / debriefing during the visit (clean up as you go). Reunion and feedback. Learn from your mistakes (or rather, from others!)
