TIP #1 You don’t need discounts to entice customers and prospects to spend more Don’t assume they know all you have to offer Make it easy for them to buy more Create urgency and a “buy-now” mentality Key talking points: Need to consistently reinforce marketing message and promote all services offered. Messaging won’t resonate until consumer has need for a particular service. Evaluate your customer’s buying experience. Where are the “friction” points? How easy is it for them to reach you, request a service, pay, etc.? Can they buy from you the same way and as easily as they buy other services? Time kills buying decisions as other priorities arise… leverage scheduling, seasonality, upcoming events/holidays to create artificial or real deadlines for placing an order.

TIP #2: Bundle services to create greater value Combine complementary services Pricing doesn’t have to be significantly less than buying ala carte Brand with a promotional name to reinforce “value” and simplify buying process Key talking points: Similar approach used by Jimmy John’s and McDonald’s in promoting their “Value Meals.” Encourages “add-on” purchases by removing the barrier of making separate buying decisions.

Use professional looking bills (vs. hand-written notes) Leverage technology to impress your customers Key talking points: Bills are great opportunities for promoting your services… You know your customers will see them, and if they include more than “just a bill,” they will be pleasantly surprised, and possibly delighted. Make sure your bill looks professional, it reflects your level of professionalism! Imagine if your bills included photos and special offers!

TIP #5 Your biggest competition Isn’t other professional dog sitters Make sure your marketing message isn’t too narrowly focused on how you’re better than other services Be sure to position yourself as a better alternative to using a neighbor or not using a sitter Key talking points: Example: Intuit considers their biggest competitors to QuickBooks to be Excel and pen & paper.

TIP #6 Apply simple drip marketing tactics to maintain top-of-mind awareness Include sign-up form with your bill that can be returned with payment to collect s, mobile #s Send special offers, encourage sharing Send links to online articles or your social media posts, or simply copy and send as a message Key talking points: Make it easy for your customers to provide you with their and mobile number. Entice them to provide it with the promise of sending special offers and useful information. Don’t have a social media presence or a blog? No problem! Just search the online topics you find interesting and when you find one that you think your customers and prospects will appreciate, simply copy the link, and include it in an or text with a brief message.

TIP #7 Create a fun contest Cutest pet photo, funniest, worst or most inspiring pet story, etc. Select winner based on votes submitted to you via or text Encourage users to post to their social media sites to attract votes Key talking points: Post to your website, blog and/or social media sites. Don’t forget to have special offers appear on same page. Be sure to have multiple runners-up so that more people are engaged beyond just the winner. This program will enable you to build up your list of s/mobile numbers for prospecting.
