1 How to Write a Report

2 Step 1 Answer the question or topic title such as:
Research the current Ebola epidemic. In our case-you will focus on the topic and give a brief overview of the general situation. (This is only a 500 word research paper! Yes, I said only!)

3 Step 2 Learn about the situation before you begin to write.
Be sure to record all the websites where you get your information. Google is not a website.

4 Step 3 Write an introduction
The introduction should grab your readers attention, have an overview of general events, and go from general to specific. The introduction ends with a thesis statement.

5 Easy Introduction When you write an introduction, each line of the introduction can tell what each following paragraph will be about.

6 Sample Introduction (written by a student)
Polio is a illness that in the most severe cases causes paralysis, trouble breathing and even death. Polio is caused from poor sanitation. Polio had a major outbreak in the 1900’s that killed 13,000 to 20,000 people. In 1952 about 60,000 cases with over 3,000 deaths were reported in the United States. Polio was the biggest epidemic in recent history. Polio is a illness that in the most severe cases causes paralysis, trouble breathing and even death. (Her third body paragraph will continue on the topic of the outbreak of 1900’s and 1952) Polio was the biggest epidemic in recent history. (This is her thesis statement) Thank you Skylar Christensen

7 What is a Thesis Statement?
A thesis statement is the purpose of the report; what the author is trying to prove or explain. The thesis statement gives the paper direction and limits what you have to write about.

8 Sample Thesis #6 This little known group, played an important and essential role in caring for the sick and needy in Philadelphia in the late 1700’s.

9 Step 4 Write the body of your paper.
Here you will present the evidence to support your thesis statement in the body of your paper. It should be at least paragraphs long. When you change topics, start a new paragraph! No personal opinions or feelings, just the facts.

10 Step 5 Write a conclusion. Restate and wrap it (your paper) up!
The conclusion should be the easiest paragraph to write. You can even rewrite some previous facts you have already discussed which prove the original statement.
