2 The Victorian Certificate of Education
The VCE The Victorian Certificate of Education To be awarded the Certificate at the end of Year 12 a student must have: Passed 16 units at VCE level Passed 3 x Units of English (including U3/4) Passed 4 x U3/U4 sequences To ‘progress’ to Semester 2 – expected to pass 4 units, including English To progress to Year 12- expected to pass 10 units and one of them MUST be English

VCAA The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority Responsible for monitoring and managing the VCE & VCAL programs Create a set of regulations that must be followed by all Victorian schools to ensure consistency

4 What VCAA does: Write the Study Designs Determine the Outcomes Set enrolment and exit dates for VCE subjects, VCAL strands and VET Determine if a student qualifies for a VCE or VCAL certificate

5 The Victorian Assessment Software System
VASS The Victorian Assessment Software System The database where ALL VCE and VCAL enrolments are made VCAA controls VASS and determines opening and closing dates for subject and results entry Mrs Mohr is CESC VASS Administrator

6 Student Full Details The accuracy of the SFDs is the responsibility of the student. Check: Name (spelling) Address – if change, let Mrs Mohr know ASAP Gender… Subjects & teachers Sign or Amend

To adequately prepare students for exams To prepare students for Year 12 To provide assistance and guidance 40% of all 2015 Year 11 students ‘failed’ their first attempt at Outcomes…..

8 CESC Study Skills When? On a rotating basis – once every three weeks during a study session. You will ‘lose’ one out of every 6 study sessions You will ‘gain’ knowledge & skill to improve performance Delivered by Miss Pate and Study Skills Mentor

9 CESC Study Skills What? A series of activities – lectures, guest speakers, activities, videos etc A chance to improve on your own skills and develop strategies that suit your own learning styles

CESC Study Skills Session One – Homework Vs Study They are NOT the same thing? Year 11 VCE students are typically expected to complete 2 – 3 hours of homework & study a night. 2 hours – homework 1 hour – study/revision/preparation

CESC Study Skills Session One – Homework Vs Study Homework takes many forms: completing activities, exercises or questions set in class working on a task to be submitted in a few days preparing for an upcoming assessment task doing practice examination papers

CESC Study Skills Session One – Homework Vs Study Study on the other hand means: reviewing the material covered in the last lesson organising your notes prereading material for the next lesson preparing summaries of notes, text chapters etc in preparation for tests and examinations reviewing your performance on assessment tasks and going over mistakes and areas of weakness
