9 Sound Spelling Cards uniform: This is a uniform. What sound do you hear at the beginning of uniform? (/u/) Say it with me /u/. The u says its name. Do you know someone who wears a uniform? easel: This is an easel. What sound do you hear at the beginning of easel? (/e/) Say it with me /e/. The e says it name. What do you use an easel for? Have you ever used an easel? Write the letter for /u/ in uniform. Say the sound to yourself and then aloud. Repeat with easel.

Sound out each word and remember that the last letter “e” is silent. Watch out for those sneaky e’s! Discuss meanings: A cube has six square sides. Eve is the day or evening before a special day such as New Year’s Eve.

Adult animals develop from baby animals. insect: An insect is a small animal without bones. Flies, ants, and ladybugs are all insects. Name some insects you often see.
