3 Characteristics & Features of the Book:
Comprehensive Orderly Polished Literary Style Historical Universal People-Oriented Prayer “Scripture” The Holy Spirit Medical Language

4 Main Emphasis of the Book:
Luke was written initially to and for the benefit of the Greeks. This orderly account of the life of Christ, in which Luke presented “all that Jesus began both to do and teach” (Acts 1:1), was written in order to focus on Jesus as the perfection of humanity, the ideal Son of Man, who came to save all mankind (19:10).

5 Jesus’ Genealogy Can Be Traced All the Way Back to Adam.
For the Jewish readers, Matthew had traced Jesus’ genealogy back to Abraham, following Joseph’s lineage, to tie Jesus to the promise of Abraham and present Him as the royal descendent of King David. For the Greek readers, who are interested in the perfection of humanity and the ideal man, Luke traces Jesus’ genealogy, following Mary’s lineage, all the way back to Adam, the first of all men, to emphasize Jesus’ human descent.

6 Jesus’ Purpose and Work Was Universally Focused on All Mankind.
“…great joy which will be to all people” (2:10). “…revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel” (2:31-32). “…all flesh shall see the salvation of God” (3:6). Jesus “went through every city and village…” (8:1; 10:1). Jesus’ Parable of the Good Samaritan was a clear emphasis on doing good to all men (10:25-37). Jesus told His disciples to preach “repentance and remission of sins…to all nations” (24:47).

7 Jesus Emphasized the Need for Prayer through His Life and in His Teachings.
Luke records eleven prayers of Jesus, most of which are not recorded in the other accounts, and tells readers that Jesus was in prayer during or leading up to certain events in His life. Luke records three parables that Jesus taught on prayer (only recorded by Luke). In addition to His example and His parables, Jesus taught and encouraged others to pray.

8 Jesus Had a Deep Interest in, Love for and Personal Interaction with People.
Luke emphasizes Jesus’ encounter with certain classes of people during His ministry—classes of people which were not usually interacted with or shown much attention socially. Jesus showed concern for social outcasts. Jesus showed concern for the poor. Jesus showed concern for women. Jesus showed concern for children.

9 Jesus, the Ideal Man, Is the Fulfillment of Ancient Prophecies.
To the Jews, Matthew presented Jesus of Nazareth as the promised Messiah, through the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies. To the Greeks, Luke presented Jesus as the ideal man of whom ancient prophecies foretold. What a man! What a perfect man, that even ancient prophecies made about Him are fulfilled in their entirety!
