1 Leadership

2 Why do you want to be a Leader?
It is important to me that we talk about things that are important to you. Why do you feel it is important to develop leadership attributes? What do you want out of this discussion?

3 The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership
John Maxwell is a great speaker. I had the chance to attend one of his conferences in person years ago and he is extremely engaging. He is also comfortable and confident in the discussion of leadership – it is something he loves talking about and something he excels at sharing with others. While there is no way we can discuss all 21 laws, we will address several that I believe pertain to you. The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership

4 1. The Law of the Lid 2. The Law of Influence 3. The Law of Process
4. The Law of Navigation 5. The Law of Addition These are the first 7 laws from Dr. Maxwell. 6. The Law of Solid Ground 7. The Law of Respect

5 #2 The Law of Influence All a title can do is buy you time – true leadership comes from the Influence you have on others. Management Myth – Leading and Managing is NOT the same thing. Management focuses on processes. Entrepreneur Myth – Entrepreneur’s are good at seeing opportunities and pursuing them, not all are good with people. Knowledge Myth – Knowledge is power, but it does not automatically equate to the ability to lead. Pioneer Myth – Just because you are first does not mean you are leading. Others need to be following. “True leadership comes from influence and your ability to build relationships” - Maxwell

6 #4 The Law of Navigation Anyone can steer the ship – it takes a leader to chart the course. Amundsen had a clear plan with all of the necessary supplies to be successful. Scott had been of the opinion that desire would overcome preparation. Leaders need a positive attitude with the ability to recognize the facts around you to lead past and through obstacles.

7 #6 The Law of Solid Ground
Trust is the foundation of Leadership. It is the most important thing that holds organizations together. You cannot remove trust and feel you will be able to continue to lead. Good decisions – you earn change. Poor decisions – you pay out change. When you make too many bad decisions you run out of change and you are out as the leader. Character communicates consistency, potential,

8 8. The Law of Intuition 9. The Law of Magnetism 10. The Law of Connection 11. The Law of the Inner Circle 12. The Law of Empowerment 13. The Law of the Picture 14. The Law of Buy-In

9 What does having a 30,000 foot view of a situation mean?
#8 The Law of Intuition Leaders evaluate everything with a Leadership Bias. Intuition comes from Natural Ability. The ability to read what is going on. Leaders are readers of their situation. Know the situation before they have the facts. What does having a 30,000 foot view of a situation mean?

10 #12 The Law of Empowerment
Only secure leaders give power to others. Great discussion of Ford in the early years and how he would undermine the leaders around him.

11 15. The Law of Victory 16. The Law of the Big Mo 17. The Law of Priorities 18. The Law of Sacrifice 19. The Law of Timing 20. The Law of Explosive Growth 21. The Law of Legacy

12 #17 The Law of Priorities Leaders understand that Activity does not equal Productivity. Know what is next.

13 #19 The Law of Timing When to lead is just as important as what to do.
