ADKAR Awareness Desire Knowledge Ability Reinforcement “a goal-oriented change management model that allows teams to focus their activities on specific results” Prosci (1994)

6 ADKAR Make staff AWARE of the drivers for change.
Provide motivation or DESIRE for staff to participate. Give staff the KNOWLEDGE and skills needed to enact the change. Make sure the tools & support provide the ABILITY to behave differently. Monitor and REINFORCE the change. John Shaw, Prosci, 2013.

7 Do it… NOW! Forceful Results are usually negative:
Mental Stress Loss of Loyalty Increased time away from work Pushing (vs. Pulling) Resistance does not go away – but you CAN channel it in the right direction

8 Let’s Do It Together! Allow staff to express concerns (let them dump their bucket) Empower staff by asking “What can we do to make this change work?” Guide staff through the learning curve – most change is seen as loss of power because knowledge is power.

Praise in public and correct in private – but DO address resistance formally Have a one-on-one discussion Understand their perception of the change Accept that some staff may separate
