A Roadmap to 1:1 Success Amanda Lanza, Specialist, ODL Jennifer Weaver, Resource Teacher, ODL

2 Description Participants will determine the most effective detours and routes around potential hazards on the road to 1:1 implementation by identifying strategies and resources using the ODL Wiki and personal experiences. At the conclusion of this session, participants will have created a playable 1:1 implementation card game.

3 Outcome Participants will identify potential hazards and develop effective strategies for introducing and maintaining a 1:1 device implementation.

4 Overview STAT Year Two Evaluation Report Summary
PD was focused more on tools and less on instruction Concerns about inappropriate or off-task use Lack of consequences for inappropriate device use Challenges with designing lessons according to STAT goals

5 Overview Devices in all schools K-5 6 Devices in LH schools 6 & 7 9-12

6 Game Design

7 Contents 1 Deck of Hazard Cards 1 Deck of Travel Cards
Blank Cards to Personalize

8 Game Setup Divide the cards into the two decks: Hazard Cards and Travel Cards. 2. Deal 3 cards from the Travel Deck to each player. 2. Turn 3 Hazard Cards face-up in the center of the table. 3. The player with the closest birthday goes first.

9 Game Play On their turn, the player draws 1 card from the Travel Deck.
The player may EITHER end their turn OR play any combination of cards that will create a detour around one of the Hazard Cards on the table. The player must justify their detour to the other players. The detour must be accepted by a simple majority of the other players. If accepted, the player collects the Hazard Card and turns the next card in the Hazard Deck face up on the table. Game play continues to the left.

10 Winning The first player to earn 5 Hazard Cards wins the game and earns bragging rights to a successful 1:1 implementation.

11 Your Directions Create additional Hazard Cards
Explore the Rollout Roadmap to identify possible solutions or resources Create Travel Cards Each travel card should have a specific solution or resource that will be able to address one or more of the hazards Travel cards may be designed to work alone or in combination Play test the game

12 Gameplay Smackdown Group 1 will share a group-created Hazard Card
Group 2 will play and justify a group-created Travel Card or Cards to address the Hazard Group 2 may pass the play to Group 3 Play will continue until all groups have shared one Hazard Card

13 Personal Reflection

14 Personal Reflection How has this session deepened your understanding of the ideas and resources available to support your school in the 1:1 transition? Identify 1 thing you will take back to your school to help with the 1:1 implementation. How did the activity of creating a board game impact your learning or participation? Would this be a valuable strategy in the classroom or for professional learning?

15 Presenter Reflection
