2 The first televised presidential debate
1960 The first televised presidential debate The first debate aired on September 26, 1960. It was one of four “Great Debates”.

3 The Four “Great Debates”
The First debate focused on domestic issues. The second was on October 7, was a disagreement over U.S. involvement with two small islands off the coast of China. The third was on October 13, when they continued their argument. The fourth on October 28 the candidates focused on American relation with Cuba.

4 1961 The Beach Boys The Beach Boys were formed when three brothers were joined by their cousin and a fellow classmate

5 The Beach Boys Consisted Of:
Mike Love who did lead vocals. Brian Wilson who did vocals and played piano, keyboards, guitar, and bass guitar. Carl Wilson who did vocals and played lead guitar and keyboards. Dennis Wilson who played drums, percussion, keyboards and guitar Al Jardine who did vocals and played bass guitar.

6 “The Music Man” was released on June, 1962.

7 The Music Man The Music Man won the first Grammy ever presented!
During production Shirley Jones found out she was pregnant with her son, Patrick.

8 1963 Beatlemania During this time people mimicked all the Beatles did, including haircuts, clothing and outlook. During this time the band was named “Beetles” John Lennon changed the spelling to “Beatles” as a pun for beat music.

9 1964 The Beatles Arrive in the U.S.
The Beatles arrived in the U.S. on February 9, 1964. When they arrived at the New York airport they were greeted by 5000 screaming fans.

10 The Beatles Consisted of:
John Lennon who did vocals and played guitar, harmonica and piano. Paul McCartney who did vocals and played rhythmic guitar and piano. Ringo Starr who did vocals and played drums and percussion. George Harrison who played lead guitar.

11 The Beatles Play on “The Ed Sulivan Show”
On February 16, 1964 The Beatles made there second appearance on “The Ed Sulivan Show”. They performed the songs “She Loves Me”, “All My Loving”, “This Boy”, “I Saw Her Standing There”, “From Me to You”, and “I Want to Hold Your Hand”.

12 1965 Malcolm X Assassination
Malcolm X was a militant black nationalist movement who was shot to death at a rally on February 21, 1965. Malcolm’s actual last name was Little but he took the last name of “X” to represent his stolen African identity.

13 Malcolm’s Killers The men who shot Malcolm were convicted of first degree murder in March 1966. All three men were Nation of Islam members.

14 1966 Nat Young Nat traveled to San Diego in 1966 and won the World Surfing Championships. People were surprised he won when he had a much shorter board than his competitors. When he won with such a short board it stared the trend to short-boards.

15 Nat Young and His Family
Nat Young is married to a woman name Ti who is ten years younger than him. They have four children together, Naomi, Nava, Beau and Bryce.

17 1967 The First Rolling Stone Magazine
The first issue was released on November 9, 1967. The picture of John Lennon on the cover was from the set of the movie “How I Won the War”. He was wearing the military uniform, helmet and glasses of the character he played in the movie.

19 1968 Apollo 8 Apollo 8 launched from Cape Kennedy Florida, at 7:50 am, EST, on December 21, 1968. Apollo 8 ended the Americans race with the Russians. 1968 Apollo 8

20 1969 Sesame Street Sesame Street first aired on November 10, 1969.
This show uses a combination of puppets and live actors to teach young children the fundamentals of reading arithmetic, as well as geometric forms and classification.

21 Sesame Street When Sesame Street first aired Grover was actually brown, not blue. Oscar the Grouch was orange, not green.
