8 KEYS TO PROTECTING YOUR CHILD
Be familiar with what your children are watching or play and join with them sometimes. Restrict viewing and playing times. Don’t feel guilty about turning the TV or games console off! Consider whether the content is appropriate for your child. Think carefully about having a TV/games console in their bedroom. 5.8

9 RELATING TO OTHERS 5.9

10 BULLYING Some useful advice to give your child:
Tell a teacher you trust. Don’t confront the bully. Stay in a group. Don’t fight back to defend yourself, but walk away (maybe towards a teacher). Get away and get help if you are scared. Don’t fight to keep your stuff – your safety is more important than possessions. 5.10

11 REFLECTION We have looked at steps to help encourage positive choices.
We have considered some scenarios and tried to apply the steps to positive choices. We have thought about keeping our children safe. 5.11

12 REFLECTION We have considered online safety.
We have discussed the positive and negative effects of the media. We have thought about how we can help our children relate to others well and how we can help them to be streetwise and confident. 5.12

13 FOCUS FOR THE WEEK Encourage your child to make positive choices, using the steps to positive choices in your Parent Handbook. Think about the level of online safety in your home, are you happy with it, what, if anything do you need to change? When it comes to the Internet, TV and computer games are there adequate boundaries in place? Do you need to set some? 5.13

14 NEXT WEEK Next week we’ll be looking at the importance of time for yourself, communication and conflict, and family traditions. 5.14
