4 Australian Education System
Compulsory Education: Entry age: 6 Exit age: 15 State and Territory governments have major responsibility for government schools and contribute funds for non-government schools The Federal Government provide supplementary financial support

5 Primary education (6 years)
from Year 1 to Year 6 Secondary Education Junior Highschool ( 4 years) from Year 7 to Year 10 Students who don’t intend to go to college learn vocational skills after Year 10

6 B. Senior Highschool (2 years)
from Year 11 to Year 12 no longer compulsory Senior Secondary Certificate of Education is issued after completion

7 Higher Education Australian Universities are autonomous self-accredited institutions established by Federal, State and Territory legislations. Academic Year : March-November Long Vacation: 1December-28February

8 Undergraduate Studies
lasts between 3 years to 6 years full-time depending on the field of study. Post Graduate Studies may be taken by a student who has qualified for a Bachelor’s Degree(Honours) Students who have qualified for Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) at a sufficiently high level may take Doctorate 3 years : Arts, Science, Commerce 4 years: Education, Engineering 5 years: Veterinary Science, Dentistry, Architecture 6 years: Medicine and Surgery

9 Higher Doctorate Higher Doctorate in Science (DSsc) or Humanities (Dlitt)

10 Strengths of Australian Education System
1. Personalized Learning for students with disabilities, gifted students, and students whose native language is not English 2. Funding The government funds both public and private schools. 3. Alternative Education is popular Australia is the third most popular destination for international students just behind the US and UK.

11 4.Australian students have a less rigorous curriculum and spend more time doing independent and group-based research on various topics. 5. Global Recognition 6. Work While You Study This could be attributed to the philosophy behind Australian Education which is different from others. The teaching focuses life skills and independent thinking rather than teaching facts.
