1 NON-CONVENTIONAL POWER PLANT

2 Classification of power plants
Conventional steam Diesel Hydro electric Nuclear Non- conventional Solar Wind Tidal & wave Geo thermal

3 NON-CONVENTIONAL POWER PLANT
RENEWABLE ENERGY WIND POWER PLANT TIDAL POWER PLANT SOLAR POWER PLANT GEO THERMAL POWER PLANT

4 WIND POWER PLANT Wind is caused due to absorption of solar energy on the earth surface and rotation of earth about its own axis and around the sun. Because of this alternate heating and cooling occurs and difference in pressure is obtained and the air movement is caused.

5 WORKING PRINCIPLE Kinetic energy Electrical energy Mechanical energy
Motion of wind Mechanical energy Rotating wind turbine Electrical energy Generator

6 LAYOUT OF WIND POWER PLANT

10 COMPONENTS OF WIND POWER PLANT
WIND TURBINE OR ROTOR( rotor is nothing but fan blades or vanes that are use to create mechanical energy. GEAR BOX (the gear box coupled to the rotor shaft increases the speed . GENERATOR SUPPORTING STRUCTURE

11 Types of wind mills Horizontal axis type
Single blade type, double blade, multi blade type Vertical axis type Blade material (aluminium, sheet metal)

12 ADVANTAGES It Is Free From Pollution And Clean
Power Production At Low Cost Maintenance Cost Low No Fuel Cost, and Transportation Problems.

13 DISADVANTAGES Wind Energy Is Not Continuously Available And Fluctuating In Nature. Large Land Area Is Required. Intial Cost Is High Noisy In Operation

14 TIDAL POWER PLANT Tide is a periodic rise and fall of water level of the sea that occurs due to the attraction of sea water by the moon. Tides contain large amount of potential energy and is used for power generation the up and down movement of water is used to drive a hydraulic turbine by fitting and emptying a basin. the turbine is connected with a generator to produce power

15 WORKING PRINCIPLE POTENTIAL ENERGY MECHANICAL ENERGY ELECTRICAL ENERGY

16 COMPONENTS USED TURBINE GENERATOR TYPES OF TIDAL POWER PLANT HIGH TIDE
LOW TIDE

17 HIGH TIDE AND LOW TIDE

18

19

20 ADVANTAGES LARGE LAND AREA IS NOT REQUIRED
FREE FROM POLLUTION AND NO FUEL REGUIRED TIDAL ENERGY IS INEXHAUSTIBLE IN NATURE.

21 DISADVANTAGES Machinery Can Be Corroded Due To Corrosive Sea Water
The Navigation Is Obstructed. The Output Is Not Uniform Due To Variation In Tidal Range.
