2 Warning signs of cancer
Change in bowel or bladder habits A sore that does not heal Unusual bleeding or discharge Thickening or lump in a breast or elsewhere Indigestion or difficulty in swallowing Obvious change in wart or mole Nagging cough or change in voice

3 Types of Cancer Lymphomas- in immune system
Leukemia- in blood forming organs Carcinomas- in glands, body lining, lungs Sarcomas- in muscles, tissue, bones

4 Common Types Skin Breast Prostate Lung Colon/Rectum Mouth
Cervix/Testicle

5 Tumor Types Benign- non cancerous and does not spread (MR. YOUNG show tumor ) Malignant-cancerous tumor that may spread to other body parts. Metastasis- Spread of cancer

6 Cancer Stages Stage 1 usually means a cancer is relatively small and contained within the organ it started in Stage 2 usually means the cancer has not started to spread into surrounding tissue, but the tumor is larger than in stage 1. Sometimes stage 2 means that cancer cells have spread into lymph nodes close to the tumor

7 Cancer Stages Stage 3 usually means the cancer is larger. It may have started to spread into surrounding tissues and there are cancer cells in the lymph nodes in the area Stage 4 means the cancer has spread from where it started to another body organ - this is also called secondary or metastatic cancer

9 Cancer Treatments Radiation- killing or damaging cancer cells with high-energy radiation. Side effects Fatigue Nausea/vomiting Burning feeling

10 Treatments Chemotherapy- treatment with anti-cancer drugs that kill cells inside the body. Side effects Nausea Vomiting Hair Loss Fatigue

11 How you can reduce your risk
Maintain a healthy weight Be physically active Wear sunscreen Recognize early warning signs Reduce your risk of STDs Avoid alcohol and tobacco Eat plenty of fruits and veggies Know your medical background!
