4 Science Research Class
3 year high school course beginning in 10th grade Students may earn 3 High School Science Credits (1 each year) Meets 3x per cycle + individual meetings scheduled with the instructor. Students can choose to enroll for actual college credit through the University of Albany Students have the potential to earn 12 college credits Intermediate Science Research (2 credits, July - August) – Juniors Intermediate Methods of Research (4 credits, September - June) – Juniors Advanced Science Research (2 credits, July - August) – Seniors Advanced Methods of Research (4 credits, September - June) - Seniors Extensive Summer work Work at Hospitals/ Research facilities, etc. Requires a great deal of maturity and independence.

5 Course Requirements Sophomores: Must participate in the Westlake Science Fair in June of first year in the program. It is only a competition showcasing Journal work of intended research. No student data is gathered. Juniors: Prepare a research plan & familiarize themselves to do work during their 2nd summer of Research at research facility. Seniors: Fine tune their research to participate in several competitions such as Intel Science Talent Search, Westchester Science & Engineering fair, and at PHS science symposium at the end of the year. Summarize your research in three to five points.

7 Summer Responsibilities for Rising Sophomores
You must have 8 articles with accompanying Article Summary Sheets and typed summaries. You must log all your hours that you spend on the 8 articles and Article Summary Sheets in your portfolio. After you have completed each article and summary, you must let us know your progress. This is done utilizing the following link: ***THIS MUST BE DONE AT THE COMPLETION OF EACH ARTICLE
