2 Warm up Copy these questions and answer in your science notebook
Warm up Copy these questions and answer in your science notebook. Use this to study for your quiz on Thursday. What causes shadows to move and change? The sun’s position in the sky changes as the earth rotates on its axis. When are shadows longest? When are they shortest? Shadows are longest at sunrise and sunset because the sun is lower in the sky. Shadows are shortest at noon when the sun is directly overhead. What causes day and night? On Earth, Day and night are caused by the rotation of our planet on its axis. It is day when earth is facing the sun and night when earth is facing away from the sun. Each planet rotates at a different speed which determines the day/night cycle. What causes seasons? The earth is tilted 23.5 degrees on its axis. When we are tilted toward the sun it is summer. When it is tilted away from the sum it is winter. The farther from the equator, the more seasonal differences Locations near the equator have minimal seasonal difference.

4 Rotation versus Revolution
Cut out each box. Glue the tab edge down. Glue only one edge so it can be flipped open. Write the description or definition underneath.

5 Create a seasonal guide!
Cut out each Earth. You will glue each one down in its correct position for the season. (We will use the Northern Hemisphere position.) Cut on the solid lines.
