Homeboy Industries provides hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community. 130 W. Bruno St. Los Angeles, CA 90012

3 Homeboy Industries’ History
1998: Dolores Mission Church members and Father Greg found a few caring business owners willing to hire former gang members “Jobs For A Future” 70 young people began to work Were able to leave their gang-life behind

4 Timeline 1992: A donation was given to transform an abandon warehouse to a bakery, Homeboy Bakery was born. 1999: The bakery burned down More social enterprise businesses and new, free social programs were added 2001: Homeboy Industries became an independent non-profit organization 2007: Homeboy moved into its current Los Angeles headquarters.

70% Latino, 22% Black, 6% Asian, 2% more than one race English is mostly spoken, but many understand Spanish as well.

9 Who works there? Healing programs: Licensed psychologist, social workers and marriage and family therapists Tattoo removal: doctors, nurses and medical professionals (M.D., P.A., or N.P.) Tutors: experience in teaching, qualified in math, language arts or computer basics

10 Culture at Homeboy Industries
Team work is a big part of being at Homeboy’s. Friendly after introducing  The majority of jobs/tasks are done in groups.  Students: can study in groups or request one on one tutoring sessions.

11 Ultimate Goal Homeboy Industries aims at assisting former incarcerated gang members and/or at-risk youth to stay away from the struggles of gang life, jail, and any trouble by helping them become active contributing members of their society. Example 1: Providing jobs Example 2: Free support programs.

12 Why is Homeboy Industries successful?
This organization is successful because they provide both jobs and programs in the same place, if people have to travel to multiple locations for help, they are less likely to continue their pursuit.
