4 NHS Member Responsibilities
Mandatory: monthly meetings, tutoring, Beggars’ Night, Father/Daughter Dance, Induction. Continue service: Average 5 hrs./mo. April – May 2018 Individual Service Project NHS Service opportunities Provide information to prospective new members Read s regularly!

5 Application Process Eligible -- 3.6 GPA
Applications hand submitted to Mrs. Hermane (2048) Staff surveyed Faculty council meets to approve applicants Each section awarded points that must average to 4.0 All applicants notified of status NHS Induction in March or April—TBA SOON!

6 Scholarship First step in application process
After 1st Semester of Junior Year Cumulative grade point average of 3.6 or higher 5 points for a 4.0 to 4.6 GPA 4 points for a 3.6 to 3.9 GPA

7 Character Staff surveyed
Takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations graciously Upholds principles of morality and ethics Complies with school regulations outside the classroom Complies with instructions and rules inside the classroom Demonstrates reliability Shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others

8 Service 60 hours of service from summer BEFORE freshman year through the first semester of junior year Average of 2 hours per month for 30 months Collect letters from sponsors that state the following: Sponsor’s name Phone number Address and/or address Number of hours served and in what time period Specify what the service was All hours will be placed in a chart that the applicant creates. May not use NHS charts

9 What is considered service?
Service Defined: An act performed by an individual or group in which neither compensation nor profit is gained for that individual or group.  Service should be performed willingly, putting the needs of others before self.  Service to assist organizations to which a National Honor Society member does not belong is encouraged, in that it reflects leadership and good character to ensure the success of others. No double-dipping! Be honest!

10 Membership in National Honor Society is a privilege, not a right.
