1 Unit 4 Global Warming

2 Things that consume energy around us.
[kən'sju:m] v. 消耗,花费;耗尽

3 things that use energy in your home
fridge washing machine computer air conditioner hairdryer television water fountain

4 As we know, energy plays an important part in our daily life.
We depend on energy to do many things. Energy lights our cities and heats our buildings. Without energy, the world would be totally different.

5 where electricity is produced by burning coals.
Where does the energy come from? a coal power station where electricity is produced by burning coals.

6 wind Windmills Energy comes from… Wind power is used as energy to
['windmils] n.风车;风车 Wind power is used as energy to produce electricity .

7 an oil refinery [ri'fainəri] (炼油厂)
in which oil is refined and made pure.

8 a nuclear power plant a facility (设备) designed to convert (转变) nuclear energy into electricity.

9 solar panels on the roof of a house on a bright sunny day are used to collect solar energy, making your house warm or heating your water.

10 “water” a hydro-electric dam
is used to keep back water and raise its level for irrigation (灌溉) or for producing electricity, etc.

11 Non-renewable Renewable Sources of energy 1.Coal 1.Wind (wind power)
2.Oil 3.Natural gas 1.Wind (wind power) 2.Sun (solar energy) 3.Water (hydro-electric power) 4.The sea (tidal energy)

12 Fossil Fuel(化石燃料) Carbon dioxide coal oil natural gas Greenhouse gases
● ● ● ● ● ● Greenhouse gases

13 What are these buildings made of and what is their purpose?
They are made of glass and are used for growing plants, especially during cold weather.

14 How does it work? The glass traps the heat from the sun, making the air warm so that the plants can grow throughout the cold period. We need those gases but problems begin.

15 More heat tends to be trapped in the atmosphere.
In the atmosphere surrounding the earth there are quantities of “greenhouse gases”. More heat tends to be trapped in the atmosphere. The most important one of them is carbon dioxide. 有…的倾向

16 methane[miθein] n.甲烷 water vapor carbon dioxide

17 From the graph we can see the temperature is higher and higher.
With the development of human history, the globe is becoming warmer and warmer. From the graph we can see the temperature is higher and higher. graph 名词 n. [C]【数】(曲线)图;标绘图;图表;图解

18 What are the results of global warming?
coral reefs 珊瑚礁 Floods What are the results of global warming? The temperature goes up. Glaciers melt. The sea level rises. Cities/countries/lands are flooded. Species are in danger /at risk of disappearance. [kə'tæsrəfi]n. [C]大灾,大祸,大灾难 disasters/catastrophes

19 droughts and desertification[dɛzətɪfɪ'keʃən]

20 Famines [‘fæmin] 饥荒 diseases

21 tornados There are many films about natural disasters. /catastrophes.

22 Faced with global warming, what can we do about global warming?
how to reduce the amount of CO2 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Turn electrical appliances off when not in use. Don’t turn up the heat but put on more clothes instead. [ə'plaiəns] 装置,设备 Walk or ride a bike instead of driving motor vehicles. Faced with global warming, what can we do about global warming? Recycle. Buy things made from recycled materials. Buy things that are economical with energy. 节约的,经济的 Plant trees. Absorb CO2 and refresh one’s spirit.

23 Together, individuals can make a difference!
Remember-your contribution counts!

24

25 Remember --- your contribution counts(有价值,有重要意义)
Return the green world to us

26 melting glaciers, rising sea levels and floods

27 disappearance of species
