1 6-2.1 Describe the development of ancient Greek culture (Hellenistic period), including the concept of citizenship and the early forms of democracy in Athens. 6-2.2 Analyze the role of Alexander the Great (Hellenistic Period), Socrates, Plato, Archimedes, Aristotle, and others in the transmission of Greek governance, literature, philosophy, the arts, math, and science.

2 Athenian Democracy CITIZENSHIP- Any adult male born in Athens were considered citizens This meant you could vote for or against any law This is a direct DEMOCRACY

3 U.S.Democracy The U.S. has a INDIRECT DEMOCRACY
This means we elect representatives to vote for laws for us. Laws have to be approved by both the Senate and House of Representatives. Then the laws must be signed by the President.

4 PERICLES The greatest leader of Athens was PERICLES
Under PERICLES leadership democracy, art, literature, architecture, and philosophy thrived. This time period is called the “Golden Age” of Athens
