1 Group Communication

2 We will be working on your group projects today, but first, let’s review.

3 Group or Team Groups are composed of individuals with similar ______ or _________. Teams are _________ groups. Cohesive means that you are, “closely united.”

4 Time to pick teams Take the next 3 minutes and figure out who you’d like to be in your group. If they are not here, they cannot be in your group. Groups must be between 3-4 members

5 Group Formation Process Step: 1
Step 1: Figure out everyone’s __________ and weaknesses Examples: Good at writing and editing Knows how to create graphs and charts Good at researching Etc.

6 Group Formation Process Step: 2
Step 2: Figure out member’s _______ Example: Someone who prefers direct criticism to the, “compliment sandwich.”

7 Group Formation Process Step: 3
Step 3: Write a team contract. Team Contracts have 4 sections: A team goal A list of what each member will do A list of what members will not do Consequences for breaking the rules

8 Group Formation Process Step: 4
Step 4: Decide on a type of leadership & select a leader 3 Types of Leaders Authoritarian - (usually) 1 person telling others what to do. All decisions are made by the leader(s). ___________-_______ - 1 leader that let’s the group do as they please. General guidelines are given, but it’s up to the members to decide what to do within those guidelines _____________ Leaders - leaders who keep the group together by listening to and consolidating the concerns of each group member.

9 Pre-Assignment Look over your contract and make sure everything you want is included. If there are new people in your group, go over the contract with them and make sure they approve of everything. Have everyone sign it.

10 Project You and your group are to come up with a product you will eventually be selling to the class. The product can be real (headphones, wifi, pizza place, etc) or not real yet. If you pick something that isn’t real yet, it has to exist within the realm of possibilities. You will have to research and show me the science if it’s something that does not regularly exist . Example: Hoverboard service - APPROVED Example: Real life magical unicorn riding service -NO

11 Discuss Take out a sheet of paper and write everyone’s name at the top. Take the next 10ish minutes to decide what product or service you and your group want to do.

12 Location, location, location

13 How your product would work
If your product already exists (ie. rideshare, restaurant, headphones, shoes, etc), tell me why your company’s product would be better. I will not accept, “it just is,” (or a similar statement) as an acceptable answer, If your product does not exist, tell me how it would (theoretically) work.

14 Logo Next find someone to draw or create a Logo. There is some decent logo making that you can find online.
