1 Newton’s 2nd Law F= ma Force= mass * acceleration
Therefore (rearranged) a= F/ m and m= F/ a Mass unit = kg acceleration unit = m/s²

2 Unit of force is Newton (N)
A push or pull exerted on an object Force is described not only by the mass it is also the acceleration of the object. Unit of force is Newton (N) Force unit = Kg* m/s²= Newton (N)

3 Balanced vs. Unbalanced
Net force is the TOTAL force of an object after all forces are accounted for

4 Unbalanced force -Unbalanced force will cause object to ACCELERATE
-A force acting on an object that will CHANGE MOTION of the object -Unbalanced force will cause object to ACCELERATE

5 Unbalanced force cont……..
-When two forces move in opposite directions the net force is the difference in the two forces. The net force is in the direction of the larger force Net force = to 9N 10 N 1 N Net force is = 2 N -When two forces move in same direction the net force is the sum of the forces 1 N 1 N

6 Balanced Force When equal forces act in opposite directions
Balanced Forces acting on object that will NOT change motion One force is equal with other force or forces All forces cancel each other out mathematically

7 Balanced force cont…….. - When forces are in opposite and equal directions the net force is equal to zero 10 N 10 N Net force = 0

8 Friction -Force that opposes motion between two surfaces in contact (surface area). - more surface area more friction -Amount depends on: a. Kinds of surfaces in contact. b. Amount of force pressing surfaces together. Something that weighs more will have greater friction.

9 Balanced and Unbalanced forces
1- Illustrate each concept with 2 real life examples (balanced, unbalanced from opposite direction, and unbalanced from same direction) 2- Draw neatly and color 3- Draw arrows showing direction of forces 4- Write an imaginary equation to show net force in your scenario 5- Label each scenario (balanced, etc.) 6- You will have a total of 6 drawings 7- Must be GOOD QUALITY work and Goes in your packet
