1 Food Recovery to feed the hungry
How you can help!

2 America Wastes 40% of the food it produces!
Food waste dumped in landfills generates methane gas (30x’s more potent than carbon dioxide) which adds to global warming. Edible food waste that could feed many low-income families is often not made available to them. Together we can recover the 40% of good food wasted and we have a Plan.

3 Cornucopia Food Recovery
Cornucopia Community Advocates, an Arizona 501c3 nonprofit, asks you to consider how you can help in transferring edible food from where it would be wasted to where it feeds food-insecure children, adults, and seniors. It takes a community to do this! And we have a plan.

4 The Challenges In our county food-insecurity affects: 1in 3 children
1in 5 adults 1in 6 seniors Food-insecure means an individual or family lacks enough income to always put food on the table. Our county has 52 resources to prevent illness and starvation, but not enough fresh, healthy food. Food banks and pantries, hot meals programs, senior centers, meals on wheels, residential programs, weekend meals for hungry students, school food pantries – all need more healthy food.

5 Here’s what I can do! If I have a fruit tree with more than my family can eat, I will call: Leslie Fox at (928) in the Verde Valley, or Shea Richland at (928) in the Quad City area, And give her fresh fruit off the tree to take to a food bank, senior center, hot meal program, etc. Compost inedible food.

6 Here’s what I can do! As a local farmer, I can
call Leslie or Shea when I have edible food that: Won’t sell due to cosmetic flaws. Will soon be too aged to sell. I have extra produce to contribute. We will see that this edible food is transported to where it can feed the hungry. Compost inedible food.

7 Here’s what I can do! As a grocery store worker, I can call Leslie or Shea when I need to: Clear fresh produce or packaged food from the shelves. Dispose of food products with expiration dates. Receive a mistaken food shipment that I need to dispose of. Compost inedible food.

8 Here’s what I can do! As a restaurant worker, I can call Leslie or Shea when: I have fresh produce that must be discarded. Pre-cooked foods that must be discarded. Foods that have passed their expiration dates. Compost inedible food.

9 Here’s what I can do! As a kitchen manager of a facility with a central kitchen, I can call Leslie or Shea when I have: Fresh produce that must be discarded. Food past its expiration date. Prepared meals that would otherwise be discarded.

10 Here’s what I can do! I know that we can do better than having 1 in 3 children in need of more food I can tell my friends/network about how they can also help in food recovery. I can make a tax-deductible donation to Cornucopia to continue this valuable program. I wish to volunteer.

11 I’ll call Leslie Fox at Cornucopia
To help feed our hungry neighbors and reduce food waste in our county!

12 I’ll call Shea Richland at Cornucopia
To help feed our hungry neighbors and reduce food waste in our county!

13 Together we can do it!
