2 OUR FOOD SYSTEM Our global system is organized by some parts: Production Processing Distribution Retail Consumption Resource Recovery

3 PRODUCTION Growing and harvesting edible plants and raising animals. CURIOSITY: Women grow 80 per cent of staple food in Africa and only receive one per cent of the credit. Small farmers feed 80 per cent of Africa's population but they don't earn enough to meet their owns needs.

4 PROCESSING Raw or fresh food is transformed into finished products ready to eat for example freezing and packaging vegetables. CURIOSITY: The major players in the food system are large multinational companies involved in manufacturing, processing, distribution and retail. A small number of these companies control global agribusiness.

5 DISTRIBUTION How food is transported, stored, and marketed on its way from grower to buyer. CURIOSITY: Over one million people in Africa earn their living producing fruits and vegetables for the UK.

6 RETAIL Checking and pricing food and then selling or purchasing it. CURIOSITY: Supermarket account for 97% of total grocery sales in the UK. Across the world, the price of basic food is expected to double by 2030

7 CONSUMPTION Cooking, preparing, and eating food. CURIOSITY: In developing countries, people spend up to 70% of their income in food, in the UK the 10%.

8 RESOURCE RECOVERY All the ways unwanted food is collected, sorted, and processed. CURIOSITY: In England, they throw away 3,6 millions tons of food a year, like 200000 full London buses. One third part of food produced is wasted around the world
