Welcome To Our New School! The K-3 Vision
The K-3 vision for Fyle is based around the believe that as a team, we can developing each student’s foundational reading, writing, and math skills so that students can be successful learners and thinkers. This shared commitment is a school priority that allows us (as a school community) to: Develop school-wide, grade level, and classroom goals that support balanced literacy (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and balanced math (conceptual understandings, fluency) instruction. Monitor student achievement/progress toward meeting reading, writing and math goals. Work as partners to identify best practices and interventions that support students’ literacy and math progress. Fulfill the component of our vision statement, which requires us to work as partners to support student learning and a successful transition to the intermediate level. By the end of 3rd grade, all students will have acquired the foundational literacy and math skills required for success at the intermediate level. Consultants/Support Staff: Mrs. Bethmann (Literacy Coach) Mrs. Corbridge & Mrs. Platania (Reading Teachers) Ms. Tran (Math Coach) Mrs. Lyons (Academic Intervention Service Teacher) Ms. Kumba Sankoh (ESL Teacher) Mrs. Alvut (Teachers Aid)

These standards are research and evidence based, aligned with college and career expectations, and internationally benchmarked since we are in a globally competitive society. It is a very lengthy document and you can view it by going to and then clicking on the link that says New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy. Strategies/Models Close Reading Socratic Seminar
Close Reading is a central focus of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). It requires students to get truly involved with the text they are reading. The purpose is to teach them to notice features and language used by the author. Students will be required to think thoroughly and methodically about the details in a text. 1. Read for the flow 2. Read for literal comprehension (the gist) 3. Read for a deeper understanding Socratic seminar as a collaborative, intellectual dialogue facilitated with open-ended questions about a text. It promotes a more rigorous approach, designed to improve students' critical thinking and communication skills.

AIS In order to differentiate instruction and provide the best learning experience for our students, we provide AIS or Academic Intervention Services. You may have gotten a letter either in the spring or within the last week saying that your child was eligible for one or more of those services. The classroom teacher is the primary provider of intervention services but we have a support team of reading, special education teachers, teacher assistants and instructional coaches that provide resources and information for us, and ALL of you. That support team has a table in the main hallway that has handy information for ALL parents on state testing, academic intervention services and how you can help your child at home. Please stop by and say hello and pick up information that will be helpful to you.
